North East Junior Disc Golf Championship

September 22, 2018 - North East Junior Disc Golf Championship

What's new?

Kids Disc Golf is excited to help propel the junior disc golf scene to the next level by providing and helping to facilitate competitive opportunities for youth! After a positive and successful year in 2017, running two different state championship series, we examined our abilities and the manpower it would take to begin working towards the next level. This got us thinking. We can't do this by ourselves. Even though we have a bunch of passion and drive, it's not enough to get the junior scene to where it needs to be. We believe that one day soon competitive junior disc golf will be available to the masses in a way that is much more accessible than it is currently. We envision many local junior tournaments happening on a scale similar to that of the current amateur scene. We believe more premier competitive opportunities on a regional level will be available soon. We are excited to see the first ever stand alone Junior World Championship this year, AND we are excited to offer the first ever United States Junior Disc Golf Championships as part of our vision. This US title event that we are providing is taking a lot of our time and effort! However, we believe it is important and we see it as a big step to making the sport legitimate for juniors.

So, once we recognized the grand scale of our goals, we knew we needed help. We reached out to disc golf families around the northeast who we believed were ready to contribute in their own way. We asked and encouraged a handful of these families to consider running a junior only tournament in 2018. We didn't care if Kids Disc Golf owned any of these events and quite frankly we believe it will be better seeing a local family run a local event. We are determined to see the growth of junior only events and want to help support them however we can. We had a significant number of responses with people who were willing to step forward with this initiative! We explained that they would own the event. They could decide on every detail of the event to their liking. The only thing we asked was that they followed the Professional Disc Golf Association rule book in their competitive tournaments (either sanctioned as a PDGA event or by just simply adopting the PDGA rules of play). We asked them to use these set of rules because we are offering a PDGA sanctioned, junior only, regional level event called the Northeast Junior Disc Golf Championship where their event would be a qualifier.

How do I qualify?

The list below currently contains qualifying events from five different states across the northeast. These events are qualifying events for the Northeast Junior Disc Golf Championship hosted at 501 Disc Golf Course in Warren, MA. At a minimum 1st place, in each division and qualifier, will qualify to compete in the Northeast Championship. In cases where the same player competes and wins in multiple qualifying events the offer of qualifying will shift at that event to the next player. An invite will go out to these qualifying players where they will get first opportunity to register. Remaining tournament spots, after qualifiers have been given a fair amount of time to register, will be open on a first-come-first-serve basis to all players who competed in a qualifying event listed below. We believe that most players who play a qualifier, if not all, will be able to compete in the championship event.
